Chris, people who sell used horns let you try it out before you purchase it, usually for a period of two weeks or so. That's plenty of time for you to get acclimated, have others you respect play it and give it a thorough run. That way, if you buy a lemon, it's your own fault. Don't shy away from used horns. A $5000 used Rudy Meinl is more often than not a much better horn than a new $5000 VMI horn.
