Most of the professionals I've seen performing, including Roger Bobo, Sam Pilafian, Pat Sheriden, Dave Kirk, and a few others, used their music in their performance. It doesn't hurt to use the music, although it is good to have it memorized, I feel I play better with the original markings right in front of me. THe only soloist I've seen perform w/o music is Brian Bowman.
