I'm ready to move up to a professional level tuba and I need a brief tutorial on the use of the 5th valve. Is it intended to 'compensate' for intonation variances, like a compensating horn? If so, what are the advantages/disadvantages of 5th valve vs compensating system? Is there a fingering chart available that details the use of the 5th valve?
