For those who have had their careers saved by a couple of lessons with Mr. Jacobs or who have had careers blossom because of his guidance, I would believe they would more akin him to Moses than Lincoln. It may seem difficult to understand all the hoopla if you have never experienced the metamorphosis which Jacobs' approach to teaching and performing can cause in one's playing, but it truly is remarkable.

I don't recall the reference to Abraham Lincoln from the TUBA Journal article, but Mr. Jacobs has been a legend for many decades and will continue to be so. He did much more than "emancipate whole notes". He emancipated entire musical careers, and indeed entire lives.
