I agree with Chris that you have answered your own questions except one. Will people think you are "serious" if you play a BBb tuba. There are many players that use BBb tuba and sound great. The BBb gives a large dark sound. If you are comfortable with tour horn then use it. The only you need to please is yourself. As for solo and Brass Quintet work. The horn you are using should do very well. I myself play on a CC tuba because a teacher moved me there 15 years ago. I can't see spending the money on both a CC and a BBb so I stay with the horn I'm most comfortable. So if you like the sound and feel of your horn or a small CC and can spend the money get both, but I think you would be happy with the horn you have.

I have a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Southern California and I am currently freelanceing and teaching in the So. Cal. area.
