My roommate, a bass player, uses strings on his electric that have been cryogenically frozen -- they go by the "Blue Steel" brand name, I think.
Their deal is that they stay in tune no matter what the temperature is, and apparently, they do work.
Can this work on a tuba? I'd doubt it, since a tuba uses an airspace for sound production, and a bass only uses vibrating strings. Air temperature is the main factor for tuba tuning, while string temp. is the factor for bass tuning.
Pondering, (ponderous??)
