In High School I drove a 1978 Midget. My tuba made the trip from school to home in the case only one time. The case stood about 8 inches over the top of the windshield with the top down, and each time I made a left turn the case fell into me. I quickly learned to leave the case at the band hall and buckle the tuba in like a passenger.
Of course I still only drove the car as far as a cared to walk home.
