Make sure to also hit the bridal shows that are often held at convention centers. Play a small set, have a booth, have free sample tapes and loads of business cards, get their addresses, phone numbers and email addresses and follow up. They shouldn't have a problem with you inquiring at a later date if they have divulged such information voluntary. I have a friend who's quintet did just that and received a staggering amount of interest. It wasn't too long ago so it's too early to tell if the gigs will roll in as a result.

Another tip: be upfront about your rates at one of these shows ($500, $100 per person is a good price I think). Oftentimes "civilians" aren't really aware of what these groups can cost. When I've told some what it would cost to get a quintet to perform, some run away in horror, some do not. Explain to them openly why you charge what you charge.
