Is it really that bad if I spark an intellectual, stimulating conversation based on music even if it isn't completely 100% about tubas? I clearly stated I did not start this to be "senseless" or "complain." I wanted to see if there were others that agreed with my views.

I think the reason I do not enjoy Bach is because Baroque is my least favorite musical time period. Bach is the major composer of the Baroque era. I suppose that my musical interests (which are as many of you have probably guessed Romantic) greatly influence my lack of interest in Bach.

As a tuba player and composer, I find it hard to find inspiration in Bach's works. True, his secular works are very emotional for some, but wouldn't almost any religious work be emotional for a strongly religious person? True, modern musicians make their own interpretations, and bring a musicality to Bach's works, but did Bach anticipate this? It is possible that Bach did not WANT that type of musicality in his works.

I am sorry if I have offended anyone. I think it is only healthy that this discussion has ignited intense emotions in several of you. It is a personal choice. Technicality or Musicality? I choose musicality.
