Chester is currently the tubist for BOTH the BSO and Pops. Gary, who is one of the semi-finalists for the BSO/Pops job, lived here in Boston the past couple of years, he taught at BU, subbed for Chester in the BSO and Pops, and played in the Boston Esplanade...an orchestra of Boston freelancers that tours under the Boston Pops name (this is the orchestra that performs the big 4th of July concert in Boston that 1/2 of the country watches every 4th). Gary went back to Utah (where he is the principal tubist of the Utah Symphony) this year. Hope this clears things up a little. As far as the audition goes, there are 11 guys battling it out later this month. I met Jerome and Jat'tik when they were up here...both incredibly nice guys. Congrats to you both on advancing and best of luck in the next rounds!!
