For live performances, I would say my friends Master Recital at Eastman. It was the first time I heard Landscape and the first time I heard a tuba play that such sick stuff live.
I think my favorite recording is the first Mahler 3 I ever heard. I had never listened to Mahler before and I was amazed. It was also the first time I had the VPO. Wow.
The thing that cemented into my head that I wanted to be a musician was when I was playing in a region band and everything locked in. We sounded really well and I knew that I wanted to play music from then on.
