Do you sit more on the edge of the chair or to the back of the chair while playing? I noticed I was more tense and sore in the back while sitting forward. I was leaning into the horn rather than bringing it to me, so I started sitting in the chair as normal against the back and making sure I was sitting up straight. My particular horn(Getzen) works well with this; yours may or may not. It now feels more relaxed and normal in this position. Seems like I read this suggestion in Harvey's book.
