I agree with the advice already given; pick a piece that you like. And don't feel like you have to choose a tough piece to win. Pick something you can handle and do all you can with it.
That said, my two favorite high school band pieces are:
Fast-- Emprata Overture
Slow-- Blessed are They (from A German Requiem)
