My suspicion is that if one went to a college or university with an outstanding tuba instructor/player (or even if that college was in the same town as such a person NOT affiliated with that institution), the tuba teacher would "fit one in" to their studio, whether enrolled officially or paid privately.
This would require quite an extraordinary amount of disciple on the part of the student...
...the sort of disciple that often defines "success".
