My suggestion, for what it's worth, is to find out what other instrumental teachers in your area are charging. If you are going to be teaching at a music store, call area stores and find out what their instructors are charging. If you are teaching out of your home or on your own somehow, call the nearest University and find out how much it would cost to take lessons from a grad student.
You can probably charge anywhere from $15-$35 for a thirty minute lesson, depending on where you live and the demand for a tuba teacher.
I always went for the charge less, have more students approach. The way I see it, even making $10-$15/hour as teaching tuba beats the heck out of working for a living for less money. Most teachers, though, charge considerably more.
Good luck.
