It's my belief that it's not the high school's that are putting out the wonderful high school player's,it's the individual that is becoming more talented. This isn't to say that people in the 60's were less talented, I am only saying that high school tuba player's now, have more options at their disposal than in the 60's. In my eye's the tuba has under gone a huge awakening of popularity. Although it will never be as widely played as the trumpet, violin or piano the tuba is more popular than ever before. More people playing equals more talent. I've also noticed that a lot of high school tubists own their own horn's. (myself included) How many high school tuba player's did you know in '69 that owned their own horn's?

This is only my theory I could be just blowing smoke up your bum, I really don't know if this is true.
