The real answer is an enigma. The cattle on a thousand hills are His; but God desires compassion, and not a sacrifice. Perhaps the answer is found in the joy we feel when we receive a gift from a young child. It is not the quality of the gift, but the quality of the heart that matters.
I'm always glad when I have occasion to hash things like this out. I learn much about others, and more about myself.
