when i recently saw german brass, walter hilgers used a stand that was like a DEG performance stand but waist high. he sounded absolutely incredible. maybe my favorite tuba sound. sam pilafian also used a strap around his shoulders when he played tuba last summer at ITEC in his tuba/euph jazz combo(which also sounded great).
