I subbed with the tubafours in orlando for about a year and played standing up all the time (with one of those blue note straps which work REALLY well and don't scratch the horn at all). I don't know if one SOUNDS better standing up but it certainly is a different feel. There's something refreshing to be playing memorized music standing up and comfortable. It feels liberating for lack of a better word.
Consequently, I don't practice standing up, but if I was performing with that group again, I might just do so to get used to the feel. If it's comfortable for you (you aren't expansive in girth), it's definately good to "shake things up" once in a while. Sitting in the same chair, in the same part of your room and running the same Kopprasch over and over again can get stale after a while!
