This from a fellow who probably plays everything from the Ride of the Valkyries to the Bydlo on an Eb tuba.

I didn't notice the marking in the part that says the work was written for any particular tuba, and the instrument of the first player might have been chosen for an assortment of reasons, the intentions of the composer being just one of them.

I'm wondering how it could "sound best" on an Eb? I didn't notice a lot of notes that are real clunkers on good F tubas (or C tubas, for that matter) but that would not be clunkers on an Eb. Can you be more specific?
