I think we are talking about different events. The ITEC was in Austin in 1986, as I recall, and I was there for that event. I remember an extended and enjoyable recital by Melvyn Poore that expanded everyone's horizons a little. I also remember a performance of a Jay Rozen work (In Search of the Good Oom) by the Texas Tuba Quartet (Steve Bryant, Ev Gilmore, Don Little, and was it Mike Sanders?). I don't remember a performance by Sumner, but I didn't get to all of them, especially those that were during the work day.

The recital I recall was a standalone recital that Sumner gave when he was in town. I'm thinking it was well before the ITEC. Philip Catelinet was not at this one--that I would remember!
