Having played both in CC, I would recommend a used CCB 601 over a used CCB 691. I think the CCB 691 is more comfortable to hold, but it's intonation was not as good. I have only played two of the CCB 691 CC tubas and they were both very flat with the main tuning slide all the way in. One was sent to me as a repair that required replacing the curved 4th valve to main slide bow with a 90 degree bow. Some other modifications were required to make it work, but we were left with the already too short slide length intact. It still had more basic intonation quirks than a typical CCB 601.
Though it is pictured in their new catalog, the CBB 691 BBb tuba is not listed in their current dealer pricing catalog. There is no picture or price catalog reference to the CCB 691 CC tuba.
If you call Cerveny at 1 (800) 721-7878, you can request a new picture catalog. One error is that the CFB 651-5, five valve F tuba does not have a 15 3/4" bell. It has a 14 1/6" bell like the CFB 651-4. Too bad. Matt
