Beth,
If the instrument is engraved with USQMC, or U.S. Quartermaster Corps, or some variation thereof, the instrument was originally purchased by the US Government for use by an Army Band. It is most likely of W.W. I vintage, or possibly made between the World Wars. I have a York Eb that fits your description, which I am restoring. When I finish restoring it, if it is worth more than $600 it will be because I have more than $600 into the instrument. A three-valve model just doesn't command much of a price these days. If it is playable and you enjoy playing it, or if it looks great sitting in the living room, then you have gotten your money's worth.
