Another suggestion: try changing mouthpieces.

Not too long ago, I went to my dentist complaining of a severe toothache in one of my upper premolars. Xrays and probing revealed nothing and it was suggested that I get some scans done at the local hospital for possible sinus involvement. Nothing--and the pain didn't go away.

That following weekend, I brought the subject up to my teacher. He noted that I had been using a new mouthpiece for the past two weeks. I felt like an absolute idiot. A change of mouthpiece back to the old one and the pain disappeared within two days.

Moral of the story: There are a lot of nerves winding through your face and effects of mouthpiece pressure can be hard to predict.
