The only think that I have found is that airlines will charge extra for an "overweight" (usually over 100 lbs.) item. As my flight case weighs over 70 lbs. empty, I would always have to pay the fee. Also note that for most economy class (steerage) passengers, you are limited to 3 items in your baggage (stowed and carry-on total). So, you may only be able to take your tuba, a suitcase, and a carry-on with you. The overseas flight should be no problem as the airlines use larger equipment for those runs. If you have some connections, the horn may not fit into the cargo door of a small "regional" jet. Also remember that the more connections that you make increase the chances for damage by baggage handlers.
