I think what the other person means is that Pictures was originally written for piano by Mussorgsky and then transcribed for Orchestra first by Ravel (who arguably has the best grasp on the tonal qualities of each instrument in the orchestra). If you can find the original for piano I believe it is in the same key and then just instruct your accompanist to omit the melody when you are playing, it is basicaly that simple, I think.
