As a soloist, Roger will indeed be missed by those of us in the tuba world. His teaching, however, will last indefinitely with those of us who were lucky enough to have studied with him.
I drove down to LA and studied with him in the summer of 1977 while attending Music Academy of the West. While I cannot remember everything he said, a couple of techniques have stayed with me to this day and his emphasis on being a musician first and a tuba player second is the ultimate testimate to his abilities as a teacher.
Perhaps one day someone will say the same of me....
