One of the top authorities on Baroque embellishments was Quantz, the flute teacher of the Prussian king Friederich der Große.

Quantz very much is pro embellishments according to the Baroque traditions, which by the way are divided in French and Italian schools with the German school conglomerating the two others, as exemplified by Handel and Bach.

But Quantz warns very much against ensemble- (to him ripieno-) players adding embellishments each according to their own taste.

This not to critize a recording unheard by me. Just to advise that ensemble embellishments in general are written out or rehearsed by a leader competent in the overall effects of adding these beautifications of the music.

And of course there are other systems of embellishment than the Baroque, Rennaissance and Slavonic (Balkan) just to name two.
