You should do what your director says to do and understand why he is having you hold your hrn in such a way. Im sure he understands your reasons for the way you hold your horn. But you should respect him as a director and listen to what he has to say. Regardless of your talent level, he is a much more experiened musician than you are. Don't worry about such an issue...get back in jazz band. If you wish to continue with your music career, those experiences will help you later in life.
