Its hard to come up with anything that is really new. I think such a euphonium might be easier to carry. It seems to me that such is a much better design for a double bell euphonium. It would be in Bb and E natural above. This would eliminate the need to use the 123 combination of valves which is a couple of cents sharp on the compensating three valve instrument. The root means square error in intonation would be about 1.5 cents averaged over the whole range of the euph!

As you may know my double tuba is a floor model instrument and I can put a large mute in by half standing as I do it. Once I had cork that was too springy. I inserted the mute and blew a note. The mute popped out and hit me on the head. Luckily, neither I nor my tuba was damaged.
