You might expect me to disagree with you. Not so!

I often enough have written about my opinion, that the 26K is an instrument working best in its not too low ranges. Despite the accolades it has aroused among the pros, I consider it the lesser among my 4 conical basses in Eb and BBb.

A series of clarinet, sousa, and tuba trio arrangements of mine sent to a US correspondent, made him suggest the use of a euph on the parts, that I had played on the 26K.

When I received my PT-50 mouthpiece, ordered to improve the very low range on my Besson 981, it was not its undisputed functionality in that regard, that convinved me the most. But thePT-50 gave me a hitherto unheard of control over the 26K. Also in the lower registers. Pedal AA and BBb below the fundamental are very well within reach.
