The historic Buddha was a prince in the Maghada region of north-eastern India. It was a common practice among the nobility of that time to wear heavy ear jewelry from childhood to stretch the ear lobes. This was so, as adults, they could wear a traditional earring- a large disk. A common size for these earrings was 30-32CM, about the size of a tuba mouthpiece. (Is that enough tuba content to keep this on the list, Sean?)
