that is more to do with intonation than actual pitch. Playing a middle C is a middle C, depending on what vowel you chose to use, you will make it sharp or flat. This is not a seperate device for additional pitches, it's a simple basic playing fundamental. A young player is not creating two pitches because he has a tight oral cavity, he is just playing sharp.
