Ian, You speak of creating that third tone in the oral cavity, correct? You raise the tongue to an "EE" position while slightly puckering, eh? I do that, too and actually learned it from vocalist Deborah Kavasch who learned it from the Tuvan Throat singers. Many extended vocal techniques are applicable to the tuba. I am writing a book...have been for 10 years...it'll be done next week!! :)

BTW, composer Rocky Reuter (Capital University) has a chart of multiphonics for trombone, (i.e. played+sung=resultant, played-sung=difference) etc. Also check out Stewart Dempster, the king of trombone multiphonics.

Fun stuff, and not just parlor tricks!
