Avoiding purchasing "new" Yamaha instruments in the U.S. is a good strategy.
The "distribution center" in Grand Rapids has always made U.S. prices of Yamaha band instruments higher than they can be sold in countries that don't have a "distribution center" which marks the prices up prior to them being sent to music stores. In many other countries, music stores order Yamaha instruments factory-direct and are able to pay "real" wholesale prices.
