Switzerland also has a much higher taxation rate, because they are more socialist then we are. However, when one equates something like the manufacture of tubas to labor, as we would in the U.S. instead of a craft/art as it is on the other side of the pond, other factors come into play.

Unions are the main issue in that case. If we tried to have a go at this with current U.S. manufacturers, I think that the value of employing a highly trained UNION worker for a LOT of hours for this process would make any horn of similar caliber very expensive.

Considering that the European guys meet most of the need worldwide for York-a-Likes, I don't think that you will see a "one-off" shop open in the states. Mainly due to capital risk. That's why I mention Matt Walter's he can 'kinda do the same thing, mainly because he has a shop to help him out.

BTW, don't forget about those Swiss banks. If a large percentage of the U.S. population were either employed directly by the Banking conglomerates or law firms, I think you would see a figure of U.S. per capita of approimately $50K.

Switzerland is a small state with a TON of cash flow.

That doesn't involve the "hand-labor" folks.

The USA isn't directly doing anything to discourage manufacturing within it's borders, in fact cases like BMW, Toyota, and Honda building stateside are proof of that. But most of that manufacturing takes place in "Right to Work" states.

Other companies encourage manufacturing more than we do with a better cost to profit ratio.

It must be cheaper to build a 6/4 york-a-like in Switzerland than it does here, or else I'm sure someone would have done it by now. Or maybe we just don't want to buy a UMI made 6/4 CC due to current quality issues?
