I have had a crown on one of my front teeth for about 30 years. I broke off part of the tooth in a accident when I was about 8 yrs old. Almost half of the tooth was broken off, so it sounds like it was more severe than your tooth. I had temporary caps, which I would lose periodically, until I was about 18, when the current, permanent, crown was done. I have never had any problems with it in any situation, playing, eating, talking. The tooth underneath was ground down, but this has been a long term repair for me. Just make sure that however does it has a good color sense, because my only complaint is that the crown doesn't exactly match my other teeth. I have been told that it could be replaced to match better, but I haven't wanted to deal with it.
