Rick, after you covered the bookend with tape did you rap a taped portion or an untaped portion? If you rapped a taped portion, wouldn't there be not only a damping effect, but also a cushioning effect of the tape on your rap. Also, I would think that you would need to rap the same spot on the book end each time.
