I think Edwards had an excellent reputation, got sloppy for awhile, and now have their acts together again. The Getzen bass trombones currently on the market are excellent, and probably the best buy for the money out there. Consistency is an issue, but that is the case at every American maker. Currently, Bach and UMI are as inconsistent as anyone. I'd recommend, before buying any low brass instrument, you try several of a given model (if possible) to ensure you get a good one.
