I have been using a Curry 126D on my 181 and find it to produce a very beautiful sound with a lot of comfort in extended playing. Just as a lark I tried my Rudolf Meinl #1 and found it to be a tad bit more brilliant and the 3rd partial notes also came down in pitch! I have contact Lee Stofer and he is sending out a few Rudolf Meinl mouthpieces to try out. My goal: Find a comfortable rim for extended playing and keep the 3rd partial down in pitch. I'll report when I have a chance to try the mouthpieces. The 181 is truly a wonderful F tuba.
