My B&S never had lacquer or silver or nickel….that the way it was made at the factory, and that is the way it still is. It is not presently, nor has it ever been ruined!
I guess if lack of finish is the qualifier for a "ruined" instrument, then there are a lot of pro trumpet, trombone, horn, flute, etc players with ruined instruments right along side of the tuba players making some beautiful music.
I notice that the vast majority of Monette trumpets are also ......ruined from the factory....except for those few gold-plated versions.
I'm just an amateur......and the lack of finish hasn’t bothered my instrument or its player one little bit.
