I also neglected to mention that in our town of less than 150,000 residents, we have 3 successful orchestras in which all of the musicians are paid union wages, plus a good dozen to a dozen and a halfquality community orchestras within an hour drive in any direction. The "Arts" are alive and well up here, and funded by the patrons- not the taxpayers.. this, in an area known primarily for ore mining and Finish geneology. At the same time, metropolitain areas 4-6 times this size have trouble supporting ONE orchestra, and our nations "Art Centers" (cough cough) are funded by taxpayers hundreds of miles away.
