The Palo Alto Philharmonic concert tonight at Spangenberg Theater will feature the world premiere of Lee Actor's Symphony No.1. Rounding out the program will be Wagner's Prelude and Liebestod from Tristan and Isolde and Max Bruch's Scottish Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra, (Op. 46) with Livia Sohn as soloist.

Lee's Symphony is very well-written, easily the best local composition I've ever played, and (dare I admit) it is also the first 21st century composition I've played! (yippee it also gives me the chance to get out my mute!)

The soloist on Bruch's Scottish Fantasy has (and I don't say this lightly) a gorgeous-gorgeous sound on her J. B. Guadagnini, crafted in 1774. She's also a Nigel Kennedy-style performer on stage, you younger players will love her ;^}

If you come by to check it out, stop by and say hi after!
