Many players use Eb's instead of F's. Another that comes to mind is Jay Bertolet, who uses a large Willson 3400 Eb and a small Cerveny Eb for the typical high F-tuba parts.

I highly doubt that with appropriate instruments and with the proper concept and execution of the player, that any audition committee would ever know the difference.

I suspect the only reason that you haven't seen anybody win using an Eb tuba is that no player of that caliber has decided to use Eb instruments.
