The gig in Aspen is primarily a teaching job. While I haven't spoken to Warren about it, I'm assuming that he's succeeding the prior teacher at Aspen, Abe Torchinsky, who taught there for many years. Many of the teaching faculty at Aspen also play in the Festival Orchestra but when I studied at Aspen in 1984, Mr. Torchinsky wasn't playing then. He arranged to have Morris Kainuma come in and do the playing part of the job. I would guess that Warren would have the same type of option, should he choose. He's such an amazing teacher that I would think that any summer festival would be thrilled to have him on their staff, whether he chose to play as well or not. Personally, I think Warren will do a hell of a job in that position and I'm happy to see him there.
