This strays off-topic, but I was remembering Floyd Cooley and an incident with an F tuba at a large international T.U.B.A. event in Denton, Texas in the early 1980's.

Mr. Cooley had been engaged to fly in from San Francisco and play a recital at this event. Though now they are perhaps considered the "king" of F tubas (as they offer so many makes and models that so many seem to enjoy) at that time Meinl-Weston F tubas were considered bottom-of-the-barrel. They had just taken Mr. Cooley on as a "spokes-model" (or whatever) for their instruments. He picked up one of their unsold F tubas from the display room and played his evening recital on that instrument stating throughout the day something to this effect: "I'm tired of people crediting my playing to my Gronitz F tuba. I am playing this recital on an instrument that everyone is familiar with and perhaps I'll get just a bit of the credit myself."
