Or better yet, teach the child responsibility so he doesn't have to lower his standards due to metal thickness. To suggest purchasing a VMI over a Mirafone is questionable advice. You'll more than likely wind up selling the VMI to buy a Mirafone after outgrowing the former in a year or two. Check this site's "What the Big Boys Play" and you will see a boatload of Mirafones. EXCEPTIONAL versatility, consistancy, laudible craftmanship and high resale value make them hard to beat whatever the budget. When I listen back to my old college recordings, I am amazed at the sound I got out of a "little 'ol" CC 186 with a C4 mouthpiece. Although I've fallen in line and bought a big horn, I still love the sound of a Mirafone in the hands of one who knows how to play it.
