If there have been so many problems with double tubas, why are there so many double (and even triple) French horns? Do hornists just not know any better, or are those designs advanced enough to avoid most of the problems that double tubas have had? I'd guess the latter, since although I sometimes question some hornists' sanity (my mom included), the "Horn" has a couple hundred years of evolution over the tuba.

From a non-French horn player's perspective, I'd try to find something with the fewest buttons and least complex tubing. But that's just me.
