I'd just like to give a boost to the St Petersburg. I recently got one, and it is outstanding for the money. I think they would be an excellent school tuba. I got my from Die Tuba, because they were less than Tuba Exchange. I got the hard case also, but it has not been too satisfactory. It did protect the horn during shipment, and it looked great. However, the framework is 1/8" veneer and the rest is styrafoam. The hinges popped off and there is nothing to anchor them to. I'm considering options, including an Anvil or ??? custom case. Hate gig bags as they don't protect from denting. The only St Petersburgs that are left a Die Tuba are brass, I think either raw or lacquered. I got the last nickle plated one he had last month. If you required the nickle plating, you'll have to deal with Tuba Exchange.
