I didn't wish to imply that anyone was rude or unfriendly, but to see an outfit touting itself as a pro shop in New York, staffed by impeccably attired and groomed "salespeople," whose eyes cloud over with vacant bemusement when asked about product lines with which they are unfamiliar - I can still remember the heyday of Giardinelli, staffed by earthy gritty people who knew their stuff. Like Dillon's today. The New York WW/BW is all style and no substance.

They don't stock the valve oil I get from South Bend, and don't even know what it is. While I was there, I looked over their tubas. I had a mouthpiece with me, but didn't want to play without their permission. I could have asked, but I was the only customer in the store, I was picking horns up, turning them over, examining them in detail, and no one asked, "Can I help you? Would you like to try one? Would you like a chair?"

So screw 'em. I'm a satisfied Dillon client.
